We offer two Single Honours degree programmes in Earth Sciences, and a number of joint degree options are available. We also have a PhD programme that focusses on the four main research areas of the department.
The above programmes utilise extensive field training, including numerous trips through the classic localities of the British Isles and overseas trips to a variety of European localities, and hands-on analytical training in our research laboratory facilties.
The MGeol programme has been introduced to allow direct experience for the most able students looking at roles in industry and academic research.
As of February 2012 the Department of Earth Sciences will offer a course as part of the BSc General degree. The module will run as part of the Evening Degree programme, which is set up especially to allow the flexibility to study for a degree part-time, and is aimed at those who would find it difficult to study full-time due to work, health or family issues.
The Department of Earth Sciences now offers short courses on Field Geology which are open to any interested party. There are four to choose from, all running anually, which form part of the University of St Andrews Geology BSc undergraduate degree programme.
This course delivers the knowledge and applied methodological background required to handle the impact of environmental changes on the earth and society. Due to unforeseen circumstances the MSc is not running in the 2011-2012 academic year.
The Department of Earth Sciences provides training and high level of analytical support.
