Equality in the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences and the University of St. Andrews

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is determined to actively support equality and fairness irrespective of race, disability, age, faith, gender and sexual orientation. We are working to eradicate any explicit or implicit discrimination of staff and students on the basis of these differences.

The School was awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze Award in April 2016. The award recognises our commitment to advancing women’s careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in academia and to making the department overall a more equal place for all staff. We have identified particular challenges for future improvements and we are implementing an action plan to address these.

Any equality/diversity issues can be discussed with the department equality and diversity officer (Dr Nicola Allison) or any other member of the Equality and Diversity committee. The Equality and Diversity committee meet bi-monthly. The committee membership, minutes and other resources are available to all staff and students on the DEES Equality and Diversity moodle site.
