Ms Nicola Horsburgh
I gained my BSc (Hons) Geoscience from the University of St Andrews in 2009. Following my degree I worked as an Engineering Geologist, specialising in the remediation of rock-fall and landslide hazards.
I started my PhD in October 2015 and my research focus is on rare earth minerals. My project is part of the SoS Rare consortium and is funded by SoS Rare (NERC) and the University of St Andrews. I am looking at rare earth minerals using fluorescence spectroscopy, with the goal of developing ‘smart sorting’ as an exploration or beneficiation tool. My project is supervised by Prof. Adrian Finch (University of St Andrews), Prof. Frances Wall (Camborne School of Mines) and Prof. Animesh Jha (University of Leeds).
